Located in the heart of Wyandanch, one of Long Island’s poorest and most-challenged communities, the Gerald J. Ryan Outreach Center (GROC) provides a safety net for families that are genuinely in need--especially those who “fall through the cracks” at the Department of Social Services. In fact, two-thirds of the clients served by the GROC are children.The Summer Camp, in existence for over 48 years, is an integral part of GROC; the camp provides 100 plus local children with many fun out-door activities and meals in a safe and loving environment, while offering educational enrichment and other opportunities/experiences that otherwise would not be available to them. Last year 40% of our 100 campers were homeless, shelter, in custody of grandparents, or foster children. These are the children we support and why the camp exists.
